POSA’s free classes are usually “open”—that is, open to any law enforcement officer that wants to attend. We also respond freely to requests for training from law enforcement agencies. This is a good opportunity for Mass instructors to re-certify, since many of you are approaching your two-year limit on your initial certification. February 5-6, 2007 Taser Instructor Peabody, MA PD, 8am-5pm, $225/$80 There will be a Taser instructor class held in Peabody, MA, at the Peabody PD, on Monday & Tuesday, February 5 & 6, from 8-5 each day. All too often an officer must rely on his/her empty hand skills for self-preservation despite the fact that they are armed with more potent weapons. This is because in a spontaneous, close quarter attack, there is often simply no time to access any weapon whatsoever. CAPS makes a simulation training system in which the officer uses his/her own handgun and responds to the scene unfolding on the screen by firing live ammunition when shooting is called for. Fast Action Control Techniques (FACT)

This seminar is about the real-world defensive tactics that POs have to employ every day on the street. It covers those seemingly difficult-to-master joint locks, control holds and takedowns that we need to use on every shift. breaks down the techniques to their simplest form, and shows you how to apply them for real on the street--not just in practice in the training hall. The focus is on reality, with innovative exercises, FIST-suit drills, and weapons transitions part of the fun. All techniques end in safe cuffing, of course. Combat boxing and responses to the sucker punch are also covered.
Instructor George Vranos is a 16 year veteran of police work from Auburn, MA, and a dedicated martial artist who's trained extensively with world-class fighters. He has just released a DVD on this subject titled "FACT." See http://www.factvideos.com/ for more information
We work straight through, so bring drinks and snacks. Come dressed as you dress for your normal day--patrol officers in uniform with full duty belt, detectives in plain clothes, etc. Bring safety glasses and inert OC if you have it.
